Millennial Review Daily Review #1 (12/4/2024)

1. United Health Care CEO Assassinated

The CEO of United Health Care, one of the largest insurance companies in the country was assassinated in broad daylight today. Well, actually early morning, but Bryan Thompson United CEO was killed in front of his New York hotel. Motive is unclear and the suspect remains at large but Thompson was part of a recent fraud investigation and chief executive of one of the biggest insurance companies in the country, so the list of potential motives to sift through is pretty long to say the least.

2. Public Sector Unions Are Back in Wisconsin

Nearly a decade ago Scott Walker banished public sector unions in Wisconsin despite major opposition. Finally, after a hard fought court battle, those unions are back. After over 10 years in the wilderness and a fight that propelled Scott Walker’s failure of a presidential campaign, tens of thousands of workers in Wisconsin can unionize once more.

3. Florida Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for $200 Million Ponzi Scheme

A lot of people go to prison every day. Most of them for non-violent drug crimes. Not very many of them go for stealing millions of dollars from rich people. White collar crime is rampant, wage theft and other white collar crimes hurt people everyday, but the criminal legal system is meant to keep the poor in line, not check the powerful.

4. Israeli Airstrike Kills Six Hostages in Gaza

The genocide in Gaza continues with no end in sight. Israeli’s themselves grow tired of the conflict and in poll after poll say they want a ceasefire and hostages settlement. Whether one can actually be reached with the current Israeli government and whether any future government will be less hardline are both open questions. But as it stands, with Israel killing the very hostages they say they fight for, it seems hard to see an end to the conflict because Israel is more interested in ethnic cleansing than an actual negotiated peace.

5. Pete Hegseth and Kash Patel Losing Steam in the Senate

Reporting that Pete Hegseth was an unchecked alcoholic who publicly chanted “kill all muslims” may actually tank his nomination. Donald Trump is reportedly considering Ron DeSantis as his replacement.
